In the shadow of Aoraki, we saw black stilts, banded dotterels, South Island Pied Oystercatchers, black-fronted terns, paradise shelducks, spur-winged plovers, black swans, and black-billed gulls.
The 55-210 did OK, though I wish I had my 100-400 then. I went back more recently but didn't really get many birds in December 2022, just waist-high water.
Oh, I hadn't seen this tag before.
Here are two Whio (Blue Ducks), a native New Zealand species.

I went down to the Chelsea Sugar Works the other week (before the deluge). Spent some time watching these two juvenile pied shags/kāruhiruhi playing together. Very cute. #BirdsNZ #BirdsOfMastodon #Photography #Birds #BirdPhotography

Empty nest with two grebes hanging out = grebe chicks! #GrebeDrama #BirdsNZ #birds
This morning’s photo comes from a January trip to #Invercargill. A wonderful sunset shining under heavy skies and a great coastal path made for some good shots
