Saw soooo many Tricolored Herons around the lagoon right by the Monumento India Catalina in Cartagena - this beauty was coming into high breeding plumage with a sky-blue bill and face, although its legs hadn't turned pink yet.

A painting I’m working on of a Black-bellied Wren (Pheugopedius fasciatoventris) which has gone through a lot of changes recently.
Like almost all Wrens this species sticks to understory and dense tangle in mid elevation moist forests and edges of Costa Rica, Panamá and Columbia.

On our way from Cartagena to Minca my guide and I stopped on a non-descript dirt road cutting through farmland and marshes just outside Barranquilla at sunrise, and saw 64 bird species in 90 minutes, including this smart little Pied Water-Tyrant. Can't recommend The Andean Birder enough if folks are looking for a Colombian-owned bird guiding company run by passionate birders and conservationists!

I really wanted to see a Northern Screamer in Colombia because a) these turkey-crossed-with-a-goose lookin' weirdos are only found in lowland marshes of northern Colombia, plus a wee bit of NW Venezuela, and b) their name makes me cackle because I'm fundamentally about as sophisticated as a 12 year old.

Fabulous trip to Colombia last month: mostly non-birding apart from a few days at the end, but squeezed in birding wherever I could, including a wee side-quest to find Red-bellied Grackles on the outskirts of Medellin. These endemics are on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and only exist in a few fragmented populations, but were surprisingly easy to see (bug bites aside) at Parque Ecologico La Romera in Sabaneta.
