First site surveyed, we got 15 species in the 20mins.
Great morning birding despite some rain and Dad leading us through a bog! Saw lots of darters, cormorants and ibis, a sacred kingfisher, a cisticola and much more.
Pics from this morning’s birds on farms surveys. Papa Snu pointing something out, bird and fox? tracks, hay stacked up and Ferdinand the bull.
I’m writing this from the third survey area at Larakoona, surrounded by soldier beetles, as a fox darts from its den under the furthest gum tree. I can hear Rainbow bee-eaters, sacred kingfishers, cockies and a pied butcherbird warbling it’s beautiful song. There’s a cool breeze, which is good as it’s almost 30C, that is keeping the flies at bay. It doesn’t seem to worry the beetles or clouds of butterflies.

We made it onto the first site. My legs aren’t behaving so I’m surveying from a comfy log. Just saw a lovely brown falcon, and there are plenty of rufous song larks, ravens and red rumps calling.
