eBird is running a competition in September where they ask people to upload at least 20 birding lists with 1 or more sound recordings.
I thought that it is a nice challenge, but I started a bit late. I am only at 4 recordings now (but I might have some more in Merlin).
This focusing on sound does produce some results however.

nr. 4: An alarm call from a Lesser Whitethroat from the garden. I actually gave the recording a 5/5.

I had the mic open while doing my 30 min. backyard birding this morning.
I was looking at a Chaffinch in a tree in front of me when a Sparrowhawk suddenly appeared. It flew into the tree in an attempt to catch the chaffinch.
The chaffinch got away and I got a few shots of the Sparrowhawk flying away.

On the recording one can hear Blue Tits suddenly warning loudly, and the Sparrowhawks wings hitting the tree at the 5 seconds mark.

Since I started experimenting with sound in december, I have recorded 3 birdspecies flying over me that I was uncertain of while standing in the garden.

I haven't seen a Greenfinch in a long time, so I am happy that I recorded it flying over.

As the danish #boligbirding "competition" doesn't allow observations done without the birder hearing or seeing it (like NocMic), I will count every bird that I heard myself and that I have marked on the recording while being outside.

Went for a walk with the children today, through the forest to the local lake and back, 5,5 km - it took us 2 hours.

I was allowed to record a Goldcrest in the forest - but according to the children it clearly wasn't supposed to be a bird trip. 🙂

I am still trying out sound related things and learning. But so far I am very pleased with the results.
