Crossbill - highly specialised cone feeders with a strong bill that is offset and works fantastically well getting seed from rock hard pinecones. Quite colourful little birds too. We've photographed Red, Green, Yellow and Orange variants - all same species.
Bit difficult to photograph as they're almost always in heavy woodlands.

Best Cuckoo image I'll ever take. Female shortly after she had nest parasitized a Reed Warbler.
She is seen carrying off one of her victims eggs having replaced it with one of her own, she will eat it later.
On hatching her chick will despatch any chicks or remaining eggs of the host species. It will need the full and undivided attention of its surrogate parents.
It's fascinating and worth a look up if you're so inclined.

A chiffchaff along the Lune Estuary multi-use path and former railway line from Lancaster to Glasson Dock in early summer 2021. The path is bordered by ancient hedging and trees that are somewhat neglected and sometimes ripped to shreds by the county council's contractors, but there are some interesting things to find along there, including wild onion, with a SSSI too. Curlew, lapwings, oystercatchers, greenfinch, avocets and more can be seen. #birdsuk #birds #lancashire #lancaster

Good morning. I have this little chap in his frame ready to travel to his new home. He's a one off original piece, created using watercolour on heavy watercolour paper. The little Robin Redbreast remains ever popular with people and are known as friendly little birds, often associated with loved ones who have crossed over. Take care and have a good day.

Waders and shorebirds are my favourite #birds. I love spending time watching them on the shoreline, beaches and at coastal marshes. Living in Worcestershire means I don't get to do that as often as I'd like. I'm fortunate though that #waders are regular visitors to my local reserve at Upton Warren. Here are three visiting Green Sandpipers from July.
