Anna's are such chill hummingbirds compared to Rufous. A Rufous will zealously guard their food source by diving as hard as they can into the interloper. They're like little fighter jets. The Anna's do a little dance in the air together, like aerial balerinas. Then generally end up sharing the food.

These days they're all over the place, the Anna's. The neighbor across the street has 6 huge flax plants. This year they bloomed like crazy. Great big sticky flowers. What with the foxglove and the evening primrose and the feeders there's a plethora of food.

The other day I watched a couple of them taunting Noodle the Alarm Cat. Noodle's on the deck, the hummers are hovering just out of reach off the edge. "Ha ha ha. You are powerless." Not even momentarily, they did this for a half hour.
