I don’t know but now I’m very interested in the app! I live right by a river as well and see a lot of different birds but 20! From what I know, I see osprey, crows, seagulls, herons, pelicans and anhinga (aka snake bird).

I never thought I liked birds so much until I moved here about 2.5 yrs ago to the space coast of Florida.

For who use the Merlin ID app

It identified 20 species of birds this morning in my yard, with quite a few new ones. This is my first year paying attention to such things. Is that number of birds and new birds normal for this time of year in SE Pennsylvania? Or is the app malfunctioning?
I live a mile from a river and have bird feeders.

Also discovered that my bird book is Reader's Digest from 1981, so I probably need to get an updated one 😅

Any have recommendations for bird books for the British Isles? I'd be interested in ones laid out like my one. It has maps with each bird showing land coverage. Or at least indication of rarity in each location. As well as identifying marks why the birds are in flight.

Why are / (unsure of precise taxonomy) so grumpy?

We see them from time to time on our path, weighed down with military grade optics. When greeted with a cheerful 'hi!' and a smile we get a frown, or get blanked entirely.

This is a close-up of a photograph I took of one of the local peacocks awhile back and applied some digital effects to his gorgeous plumage. Their iridescent feathers make them one of the most beautiful birds in the avian world (imo.)

I have a heck of a time (re)locating a bird once I raise my binoculars or camera to my face. I can see them naked-eye, but my lens aim isn’t great, I guess! Any tips?
