Global birth rates have been declining rapidly since the 1950s. The chart shows that the average number of children per woman has fallen from 4.7 to 2.4 in the past seven decades. The decline is driven by urbanization, education, contraception and economic development. The decline has implications for population growth, ageing, labour and consumption.

2025 is 18 years after the great recession. It's also the year when US births peaked and have been falling ever since.

The world will begin to change very rapidly and in unexpected ways in 2025.

LIVING CONDITIONS
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Many reasons have … been advanced for the present decrease in the birth rate … but I have failed to see any mention of the point of view of the young parents …
Can anyone tell me what encouragement the young parents … are given to do anything towards raising the birth rate instead of deliberately decreasing it?—l am, etc.,

What exactly is the “crisis” with Japan’s low ? Could it be that population growth and economic growth are “connected”. Neither can continue on a finite planet.

China’s collapsing birth and marriage rates reflect a people’s deep pessimism

This is the deeper, still largely overlooked, significance of the country’s 2022 population decline, announced by Chinese authorities last month.Beijing has not yet figured out how to command the people to feel optimism about their personal futures into a dystopian world
