There's a way to make #bitcoinMining do specialised computations. Maybe it can generate a seed for a suite of puzzles that doubles as a hash? but it would need to be proven that a result being reached can be verified easily, and a result must be proportional to the energy that goes in, eg. You cannot have a problem that is exponentially easier to solve when more resources available etc. An average joe needs to be able to have the same per kj input to the network as the oligopolist.

People complaining about #Bitcoin energy use would be the same people who complain about their reflection in the mirror — without realising it was them.

Bitcoin is a reflection of what we, in a Global Commons, will tolerate.

Simple.

We didn't tolerate a portion of #China's #bitcoinMining because it was dirty. They stopped the mining there.

Here's the thing, there is an #opportunityCost to everything.

We being alive means everyone else is worse off, by 0.00000001%

There's a trade off to all things – a Zero-sum etc. So we need to weigh up whether reducing #consumption of the #moneyPrintingClass and equalling the playing field in the long term is worth it. We say it is.

As we've said, there'll be a time when people can buy #bitcoinMining heaters. Heat is a perfectly viable output for humans.

One of the big lies is that heat generated by #bitcoinMining is not useful output. As any moment one quarter of the planet's population could use some heating. *wink*

Just one remark, "bitcoin miners are never turned off until they break", had us ROFLing.

The #CambridgeUniversity study, last year showed the network uses 17% of the energy used the boil kettles if everyone globally boiled kettles like a Briton.

Bitcoin #energyConsumption scales each 14 days, with supply. When we switch off coal, #bitcoinMining gets easier.
