This visualization is a centerpiece of this year's #NASA #BlackHoleWeek. It shows 22 binary star systems where one partner is a #BlackHole. The orbits shown are sized proportionately, but the orbits are sped up by a factor of 22,000 and the black holes are rendered larger than is correct, so that you can see them move; the shortest orbital period here is 2.4 hours. Stars are coloured corresponding to their temperature. #astronomy
