E. eine billige Kopie von Cooks #blackcompany, aber auch sonst war mir das zu drüber. Gibt viele Fans der Malazan-Reihe, bin keiner. #EmpireofStorms gefiel mir besser als #LockeLamorra. Kane?

General question: if you were considering running a play by email game of Glen Cook's _Black Company_ series designed to replace the Books of the South, what would you use as a game engine?

I know Green Ronin did a d20 adaptation but it's wildly out of print, and I'm not sure how well d20 translates to the grittier action of the books.

I agree, it‘s very serious, very bleak / #grimdark. Feels a bit like an #OldWorld‘s variant of the #BlackCompany. I miss a bit the irony of the Empire and the original #WFRP. Anyway, I will continue, I think it‘s very well done. Thank you.Enjoy.

I'm 8 chapters into CL Clark's engrossing fantasy political novel that is equal parts #Malazan or #BlackCompany mixed with any #Dumas adventure.

I'm not far enough in to make a more thorough determination, but so far it is a great read.

This chapter really strikes me as a bonding moment between Croaker and Raven and some great gamable content for stealthy tactics. I do really like his character studies.

This one was a very dense chapter. I mis-recalled the events over a couple of chapters. Again, I think there are great scenes in this chapter but the overall read (after a couple years distance) is that the overall thrust is a little muddled. I will need to read his bio to see when this series really started in his career. I do feel like the other books were more coherent in the omnibus.

@kensanata Yes, there were many good story telling gems in this chapter: Getting to know the Soulcatcher with Croaker's talk. Definitely channels the importance of people that wrote in times like that. I will say the main theme of the chapter; Raker was quite muddled to me. I still (after the 2nd reading) don't quite get what the actual "downfall" of Raker was...ESPECIALLY in light of the ease of dispatching him.

Getting back to this one. The chapter was much longer than the first and there was much to unpack there. I do agree with the more uncomfortable parts and always want to know the reasons for authors putting them in books. I suspect it is mired in 80's privilege.

More wizardly bits that were interesting to me as well. This time around, I noticed the use of "glamor" as the word to show illusions and was more tuned into that.

@kensanata before we go further in our #letsread series on #blackcompany , did you see there was a book called Port of Shadows that was put between the original 1 and 2 books? If you have the omnibus editions, it would not be in there.
