Fun fact, the city willingly purchased this garage in the late '90s to encourage people to park downtown. Selling it in 2016 was absolutely one of the best decisions the city ever made.

The most full parking lot I could find on Black Friday was Walmart. Even then, there was plenty of parking available. #BlackFridayParking is the best demonstration that we build too much parking around our shopping centers, land that could be put to much better use.

It's time we took a step back and thought about how much space we surrender to cars.

This is the busiest shopping day of the year. According to municipal governments, this parking lot should be full to capacity, a minimum parking capacity designed to accommodate the influx of drivers.

#BlackFridayParking Fairlane Town Center in Michigan. There are many sections of the parking lot and this is the one with the most amount of cars in it and yet it's not even half full.
And to top it off, nearly half of the total lot was under construction. So the extreme majority of spots were actually vacant.

This is why parking minimums need to be parking maximums.

#BlackFridayParking at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, WI. MKE’s successful traditional mall (ie the indoor mall w an 🍎 Store): most would say parking here on Black Friday is impossible. Most spaces *are* crowded!

But lo! Empty spaces abound, & a 3 story parking deck sits vacant.
