Chattel Slavery isn’t the only way white Americans profited from enslaved Africans. After the Civil War, Black Americans who owned land, property, and businesses were often the targets of white domestic terrorism and lynchings with their land stolen from them. This was a very common occurrence.

Here’s one heinous example and an effort to correct an injustice and crime:

"Like all white settler fantasies," writes educator, activist, and antiracist organizer Danielle Dulken of the University of North Carolina, the myth of a lily-white Appalachia "hides a complex history of layered dispossessions and diverse populations." From Scalawag Magazine in 2019

"Forbidding Black students, some of whom are the descendants of enslaved Africans, from discussing the chattel slavery system feels emotionally abusive, just like telling Jewish students they can't talk about the Holocaust or warning Indigenous people against discussing the Trail of Tears.' - Allison Wiltz

"African American soldiers, past and present, are a prominent part of the irrefutable evidence that we are deserving citizens of this nation. And no amount of erasure, disrespect, racism, and bigoted ignorance will change this fact."

"Many people are entirely unaware of the history behind the phrase and that it is directly linked to black lynchings... Not only were these black people hanging from trees, but they were hanging low since the weight of their bodies was heavier multiple times over compared to your average piece of fruit." - Destiny S. Harris

"During World War I and World War II, the fear of combat-trained African American soldiers returning from deployment overseas to Jim Crow and segregation in the United States so threatened white supremacy, these soldiers were often made the specific targets of racially-motivated, violent attacks."
