I ran Dragons At Dawn last night in Tonisborg. That baby is *deadly*.

We had some issues with the combat system, which felt quite clunky. Adjusting the combat values by the Dex and level differential was brutal!

I think that rolling your stats with 2d6-2 can generate some quite brittle characters if you roll badly on Dex.

Interesting though to have to roll morale for the combatants, including the PCs.

One PC dead, two NPC wizards fried.

I just re+read my own notes about how combat works in *Dragons at Dawn*, and I am really confused. Involved gaming procedures really doesn't get stuck in my mind just from reading.

I decided to try to stat the monsters on the first level of *The Lost Dungeon of Tonisborg*, for *Dragons At Dawn*, as the most old school Blackmoor thing possible.

Maybe it might be an interesting comparison point for that rare individual out there who knows about this niche old school gaming niche.

I'm pretty sure actual play will show the numbers to be way off.

Having read a bit more in *Dragons at Dawn* I realized that I don't think I ever saw mention of it back in the day, or now for that matter. Are there anyone around who have tried to play it?

Reading *The Lost Dungeon of Tonisborg* I'm reminded of the term "jaquaying" a dungeon. Greg made his dungeon in that way before Jennell Jaquay designed her famous works. Having multiple entrances, and direct access to deeper levels clearly was something Dave Arneson and his players had in their designs. Seeing it in this instance really makes me understand what a wonderful design principle it is.

As *The Lost Dungeon of Tonisborg* (Greg Svenson's old dungeon) showed up in the mail yesterday, I'm now preoccupied with the idea of running a old school dungeon crawl, in the very roots of the hobby.

I took out Dan Boggs Blackmoor recreation game, *Dragons at Dawn*, thinking that it can't be any more Blackmoor than that, can it?

The Egg of Coot from #Blackmoor might just be the thing that I needed to make my Forest of High Adventure campaign for #Kaendor more pulpy and Sword & Sorcery.

(I could put it at the bottom of the Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, where the original dungeon just leads to a dead end.)

After much discussion with my family, we're going to end our #Blackmoor campaign, and start a SciFi game set in #Marvel comics space (not the MCU). Superheroes and magic will exist, but be limited.

We'll be using the Hyperlanes 5E #TTRPG, and I'll be homebrewing it with boardgames to make it play like a minis game for starship and ground combat, and like a trading game for space exploration.

The things I put up with to have a family game night...

@kensanata #Blackmoor, the D&D setting we are playing in (and first setting ever created for #dnd), has human-like aliens called Travelers in a city-sized ship who crash-landed on the planet because magic and high-tech are incompatible. One of the reasons I chose it is because my kid likes sci-fi.
I could retcon things so tech works normally, and re-start the campaign so they play the aliens instead of fantasy folk.

@kensanata @phf does anyone know if the "Braunstein" game rules are available somewhere online?
