For #BlackFriday, I wrote about AP Tureaud and that my mother addressed him as Lawyer Tureaud. It was traditional in Black communities back then to offer respect to our members by affording them a title. Back then a white child could refer to a Black adult by his/her 1st name. So we corrected that from within. In #BlackNOLA we called that adding a handle. We called our people Mr Harry or Mr Williams, Miss Mary or Miss Johnson. Lawyer, Professor, Preacher or Doctor Smith. Can we bring that back?
