Cuttings from scarce UK native #blackpoplar tree (Populus nigra subsp. betulifolia), taken on 23 Oct, now rooting and in leaf. There are only a about a hundred known different genetic clones , making the tree vulnerable, as it is difficult to propagate from seed. UK native #blackpoplar cuttings taken on 23 Oct, now rooting and in leaf. These have been in rainwater on a windowsill. Cuttings are from a #Dorset specimen tree that has now been verified as ‘clone 23’ (which is one of the most common known genetic variants of this rare tree).
