Is anyone running or playing in a Black Sword Hack campaign? I'm just curious how players like advancing in it and what kind of adventures you might be runing. It's one system option I'm considering for the next campaign.

For #SeptembeRPG #SeptemberRPG #SeptembeRPG2023 5 I have some thoughts.
When I began DMing I tried to railroad and not railroad at the same time. I tried to guide into scenes as good as I could without forcing a lot.
Until I forced a scene really bad.
And I went into the other point and I finished into #PbtA and then I learnt how not to prepare and I got used and comfy by not preparing.
But I felt not so right sometimes.
I felt lost, but could not say how or why.
Recently I found #TrophyDark and #TrophyGold #FateOfCthulhu #CarvedFromBrindlewood ...
Ways to prepare not tight at all, but having some kind of prep.
And it clicked si well. I have DM'd things like #BlackSwordHack by facing the prep as a Trophy incursion, for exemple.
And that is the greatest change I've got: learning how to prep as it fits with my DMing

@auguryignored I've really enjoyed reading #blackSwordHack and #errant; both are freely available with an SRD. So much flavour.
#RPGaDAY2023 Day 31 - Favourite RPG. **DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOOSE!** There are so many, great, great games out there, and they all bring something different. Just this year I've hugely enjoyed #TrophyDark, #Liminal, #YellowKing, #BlueHack, #Numenera, #BlackSwordHack, #Pendragon, #MatronsOfMystery, #OSE, #Mausritter, #OutOfTheAshes, #RiversOfLondon and more. All were fabulous, all were different. So, my favourite RPG is all the RPGs - diversity rules!

26. FICHE de personnage préférée : j'aime bien les fiches simples et claires où tout est visible sur une page, un peu comme pour #BlackSwordHack . Avec à côté un inévitable "carnet de notes" pour y écrire toutes les péripéties de mon personnage 🙂

@benni @moonmoth uhhh… klingt echt bisschen stressig. Dis-ZÄ-PLIN! 🧐
#RPGaDay2023 Unplayed RPG I won? Well, way too many… but how about #TLDRPG by #BillyBlue . I love his style, and that’s why I bought the book. But I never even assumed that I will ever play the game. It’s not a bad system but I hardly have found time to play #BlackSwordHack or #BetterLeftBurried or even #DeadInSpace . More about #TLDRPG : https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/2023/02/09/qa-billy-blue-tld-rpg/

@Steve_J complétement d'accord avec toi !
D'ailleurs j'ai hésité à citer le #BlackSwordHack des @TMushmen dans cette catégorie. Tous leurs produits sont d'une grande qualité esthétique 😄 et très efficaces en matière de mise en page.
RPGaDay23 CatchUp (3) First RPG Bought (this year):
This year would be #BlackSwordHack Ultimate Edition, via their Kickstarter back in January. I've already managed to run the game twice so off to a good start.
Lifetime first RPG Purchase, I'm not sure. I once picked up a Das Schwarze Auge book at a boardgame convention's used games stall before I even really knew what TTRPGs were, and I'm pretty sure that was my first.
You said
"Then bust out #DCC #blackSwordHack #blackHack #OSE #whiteHack #intoTheOdd or some such thing."
This is called a "bait and switch".
Please do not assume ignorance in this conversation. You're allowed (encouraged!) to like different things but I'm also allowed to like different things. OK?

Day 6's #RPGaDAY2023 prompt is "Favourite game you never get to play"
"The best song will never get sung
The best life never leaves your lungs
So good, you won't ever know" --- Wilco, /Late Greats/
There's a game rattling around in my brain; I see hints of it reading Apocalypse World and #pbta games, Errant, Dungeon Crawl Classics (#dcc), Whitehack (#whiteHack), #traveller, #blackSwordHack, #wwn/#swn, and #diaspora. Maybe others.
A game about exploration and the antics of desparation.

Day 4's #RPGaDAY2023 prompt is "Most recent game bought." Were I to have filled this out on August 4th, the answer would've been #BlackSwordHack. However since I'm filling this out on August 6th, the answer is #intoTheOdd. (I drove to Kalamazoo Michigan to pick up a hard-copy from Fanfare games.)
I'm really digging the genre of "inspired by #dnd yet stripped and refined and bent towards a particular style."

While relaxing at the end of my work week, I played a short #soloRPG session. This latest session threads between running an #rpg and writing #fiction. The oracles in the #blackSwordHack help move the situation along; introducing unexpected symbols to respond to.
I'm definitely thinking more of Poul Anderson's "The Broken Sword" than of Elric (as I had first thought).

@Silverlion @CountZeroOr @LeviKornelsen I recently discovered #TheMechaHack (thanks @darkade ) which is rooted in #BlackSwordHack and looks like it would play pretty fast. Not sure if it has as much customization as armored core, though!
I am of the "I won't ever run #5e" camp. I will play in it, to observe the style of play and then pull the "Hey, I wanna run D&D...I have some house rules." Then bust out #DCC #blackSwordHack #blackHack #OSE #whiteHack #intoTheOdd or some such thing.
Why? Because #5e is so very non-GM facing. And I'd rather not. Also, much of what I've seen in "actual play" would be better served with less character abilities.
#5e #DCC #blackswordhack #blackhack #ose #whitehack #IntoTheOdd
@pteryx @OskarGhoti Honestly... I don't really want to play D&D-like games anymore. About the only one I still enjoy is 13th Age.
If I want to play heroic fantasy (which, honestly, is far from my favotite genre), I'd prefer playing an NSR game like Black Sword Hack or Into the Odd, a narrative-focused RPG like Dungeon World, or a skill-based level-less game like Swords of the Serpentine.

Arheash recovers from most of his wounds, but jeopardized his birth-bound companion. And we learn that the jungle is not a place for true rest.

@ConorMahood I'll be playing a #5e #spellJammer game on Monday. Perhaps I'll continue my #soloRPG game of #blackSwordHack.
#5e #spelljammer #soloRPG #blackswordhack
The #5e short and long rest healing felt off. Especially considering the baseline of 1 hour and 8 hours elapsed time. (The #DMG had options for 1 day and 1 week, which sat well with me.)
As I wrote in https://takeonrules.com/2023/07/25/the-bespoiled-augur-of-the-unbound-wyrd-session-2/ the #blackSwordHack (#bsh) keeps the baseline time and says something like: you have super natural healing, and it's unnerving for common folk.
This shift to explain a rule in fiction paints a bit of the picture of the game and style.
I love it.
@kevin I'm trying also to place it relative to other games. It is easily above #5e (as the game has at least as much GM support). I'd consider my group and go with either #blackSwordHack or #wwn depending on their experience. And from an accessibility standpoint, I think BSH wins out (e.g. less rules more fiat with assumption of trust)
