I saw the play "Beneatha's Place" at The Young Vic today. The setting is Nigeria, just before independence and the present day. Powerful themes are explored (politics, power, colonialism, racism and more), with poignant performances from the cast, in particular from Cherrelle Skeete.

Another powerful play - I saw today.

I am still reeling from the stellar performances and the brutal yet poignant themes explored in the play. There's A LOT to process, but Tyler Perry's work gets wholeheartedly trashed!

TAMBO AND BONES

My review:

Powerful, unnerving and disquieting. Race relations through the lens of black entertainers and the white gaze.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Powerful performances in "In Hiding", a play about a mother's love for her son who is Autistic, pitted against employment, social standing in Nigeria and Owambe.

WOW!

Still processing "School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play"

Very funny but also very poignant on Black beauty versus European/Western beauty standards; mother - daughter relationships; female friendships and rivalry; competition; and so much more.
