Another photo from this morning`'s catch.

This black vulture (Coragyps atratus) flew over this morning while I was drinking coffee. I'm pretty sure there are some congregating nearby in the forest. The same with turkey vultures. I see them in the morning lifting up from the forest to rise into the sky.

Just hanging out.

This black vulture was passing by, I usually see them just lazily gliding on the thermals. It looks like this one had to flap its wings.

Twilight zone tune 🎶🎵

These three vultures were circling overhead a few days ago. Notice that two seem to be flying counterclockwise and one clockwise. I think the clockwise one is a black vulture, and the others are turkey vultures. This assessment is based on the wing's shapes, but they are hard to see in the photograph.

A fly by.

This black vulture was fling by the house yesterday. The photos I snapped yesterday are the closest photos of a flying black vulture that I've taken so far.

"The black vulture (Coragyps atratus ), also known as the American black vulture, Mexican vulture, zopilote or gallinazo, is a bird in the New World vulture family whose range extends from the northeastern United States to Peru, Central Chile and Uruguay in South America. Although a common and widespread species, it has a somewhat more restricted distribution than its compatriot, the turkey vulture, which breeds well into Canada and south to Tierra del Fuego. It is the only extant member of the genus Coragyps, which is in the family Cathartidae. Despite the similar name and appearance, this species is unrelated to the Eurasian black vulture, an Old World vulture in the family Accipitridae." - animalia.bio

Black Vulture.

I'm a little bit excited to share this photo. It's one of the better photos of a black vulture in flight that I've taken.

Two of these birds rose out of the forest near my house while we were out walking and caught me completely off guard. I think they may have a roost close by.

I believe there is a turkey vulture roost close by as well. Years ago I used to run right by them every morning. But that road has since been paved and they probably moved deeper into the forest away from the road.

Black Vultures.

Here's two black vultures who were hanging out with turkey vultures on a water tower yesterday. I looked online because I was curious about black and turkey vultures roosting together. Apparently, it's not unusual. They often roost and event flock together - sometimes by the hundreds. Interesting.

Whereas Turkey Vultures are lanky birds with teetering flight, Black Vultures are compact birds with broad wings, short tails, and powerful wingbeats. Black Vulture

This is my absolute favorite vulture photo. I found these vultures in a tree on a creek near the Kisatchie National Forest. I had to stop my car, flashers on, in the middle of a bridge to take photos. Fortunately, there wasn't much traffic. I'll almost certainly post these birds again on Halloween.

Black Vultures lack a voice box and so their vocal abilities are limited to making raspy hisses and grunts. - allaboutbirds.org

I found a flock of these vultures in and around a tree near the Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana.

Walking home yesterday I came across a black vulture. I was sad to see a 🦊 had been hit by a car. I do find raptors fascinating and was glad I was able to get a picture. #raptor #blackvulture

This comic was inspired by my trip to Bear Mountain state park, which has a zoo. For some reason the bear enclosure was shared by no small amount of black vultures. I wasn't there during feeding time, but this is how I imagine it goes quite often.
