#Moss on soil around #beech tree roots
Taken during a March walk off the #BeechForest trail, #Provincetown, outer #CapeCod, #Massachusetts.
The #forest is growing on the lee side of a #sandDune. #Dune migration increased after deforestation of the Cape in the 1700s. #BlackwaterPond (circled by the trail) is an #interdune #pond, unlike the glacier-created kettle ponds elsewhere on the cape.
