I still can't decide if I like Brit Bennett's The Vanishing Half yet*, but I'm warming up, and I have already fancast Michelle Buteau and Michael B Jordan as the main characters, so it's not a book without merit.

This is an excerpt from Brian Broome's Punch Me Up To the Gods:A Memoir. It's a great example of the writer's ability to enable readers to visualize a scene based solely on a description. I can still envision aspects of it long after I read the book.
