Despite the bright sunshine, it's been as cauld as fuck in #Edinburgh today, a snell wind from the east. The central heating is back on and a night for a sherry bomb.

Old Perth blended malt, 56.2%, NC, NCF, NAS.

The whiskies have all been matured in oloroso or Pedro Ximénez hogsheads and butts before being blended together and spending 15 months in first-fill PX casks.

It's a beautiful ruby colour in the glass and plunging my nose in I get wafts of dark, sweet dried fruit with a hint of liquorice. Velvety, unctuous mouthful of raisins, sticky dates and sherry soaked prunes with dark chocolate. Warm finish of marmalade and woody spice.

It's a belter, perfect for a cold night staying in and watching the snooker.

After a week of working on my boat Jess, she's back on her berth where I managed to get the headsail on this morning. All set for our 1st trip next weekend. This evening I'm going to get wired into these and watch some snooker.

Balvenie 12, 40% abv, CF, E150. Still trying to get to like this one 🤔

Shackleton Blended Malt , 40% abv, NAS, E105 (probably) CF. A new one for me, I have read good things about it, but I am still making up my mind. First impressions are, it's OK, cinnamon, sugary honey and butterscotch. Orange peel notes but lacking a bit of complexity. A supermarket bargain at £18.

Lochlea Spring Edition, 2nd Crop 46%, NAS, NCF, NC. I picked this up on impulse at Geraldo's in Largs yesterday which sells chocolates, ice-cream and #whisky! I wasn't that struck by the 2022 edition of this, but again I have read good things about the 2023 and it seems to be a big improvement. I shall report back!

Sneaky. Wasn't expecting anything other than Scotch in the calendar, but day 10 of Whisky Advent opened on a wee bottle of Irish whiskey: Egan's Conviction. A 46% ABV blend of single malt and single grain whiskey, at least 10 years in the barrel and finished in XO cognac casks.

It's Johnnie Walker Blue for day 8 of Whisky Advent. Vanilla, walnuts(?), and a hint of smoke on the nose; cocoa, honey, pepper, and ginger on the palate; and a smooth finish that brings back that hint of smoke. Makes for a tasty nightcap.

Weirdish, but quick, little photo experiment tonight. Which was about all I had time for, since my work day didn't end until 11:15pm.
