There was a time when blended whisky was all the rage, especially in the US.
Nowadays, whisky aficionados are more keen towards single malts or single casks, if cask strength even better, but blended are still a strong part of the market: less expensive, easier to approach, great for mixology.
But with players like Compass Box or Douglas Laing things have been shaken up a bit.

Tonight’s dram is a little 50ml bottle of Rock Island Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. I’m not sure how I feel about it. On the nose it’s salty, sweet and smoky. There is something there that I can’t quite put my finger on and I’m not sure I like it. I was hesitate to taste it but I took a sip and I was surprised. It is sweet peat and spice with a short peppery finish.
Would I buy a full bottle? I’m not sure.

Tonight’s dram is a Syndicate 58/6 12 year old blended scotch whisky. A beautiful blend.
