A few days ago, some time after I had told people these Pi's were not running too hot, I burnt may hand (slightly) on one of the ethernet sockets. OK, it's all running far too hot...

I have obtained some more open cluster case parts, with nice little fans, and I shall be rebuilding it all. I think there will still be #Lego to hold it all together, and it really should have #blinkenlights as well....

Almost done with assembly of the #PiDP-11 (PDP-11/70 replica) kit. Still waiting for some connectors to arrive from #Adafruit for the back panel that bridge to those on the Pi inside.

Booted up into RSX-11M-PLUS, an OS I haven't touched since high school. As the Pi on the inside is connected to my wifi, I'm able to SSH into the console and login as SYSTEM (lol).

"Last interactive login on Tuesday, March 30, 1982" -- pretty close!

Progress on the #PiDP-11 kit last night.

The Raspberry Pi 3 A+ has been loaded with the #SimH software and various bootable OS images that can run on the PDP-11/70. Connected it to the GPIO interface on the back of the PCB where it will live. Powered it up for a "smoke test" and let it boot into the default "idled" program that runs some patterns on the LEDs.

Then inserted the panel switches and got them soldered in.

I have #blinkenlights.

Still prototyping, but the intent is to have more or fewer red dots scrolling based on temperature readings from the individual components.

Some experimentation with a USB SmartCard HSM while trying to get the PIN right must have messed with a Yubikey 5C plugged into the same machine. As I couldn't see the #blinkenlights I got a bit of a scare when the 5C's PIN was locked.

PUK to the rescue, and all is dandy again. (And yes, I have a backup key.)

I completed the SMD challenge! It was easy up to the 0402 components, but I had to use my binocular microscope after that. I lost the first 0201 LED when trying to flip it over, but thankfully held on to the second one. The 0201 LED was not marked for polarity, so I had to take a best guess looking at the part under the microscope.

Visited #Napa last night for the Lighted #Art #Festival, and this piece, "Seed of Dreams" by Martin Taylor, was so striking. The inside of the woman's head is hollow, allowing people, especially sub-adults, to climb inside and look out.

The art remains on exhibit through next weekend if you're the kind of person who's into #blinkenlights
