@apatchworkboy Of course, if you're part of a minority group which is in the middle of the so-called "culture war", this isn't your first rodeo and know how to deal with crap like this.

Defederation is a good thing. Closed signups are also a good thing. What this will hit hard is the high-user instances who started out as little hobbies and are already finding out how utterly draining moderation is.

(And another reason i've limited signups on #blop)

@tyr Yeah I unexpectedly had to bump disk space up on #blop last night. Think we’ll all be keeping an eye on these things for a while yet as the higher usage patterns continue to bed in.

Not just that, but some smaller instances are amenable to adding in emojis if you want.

Oh and the best thing is they work across instances, so they'll still appear elsewhere.

Right. Made the decision to keep #blop to 50 users so as not to degrade the user experience and speed of it. Woaoh, we're half-way there.

Ref that last boost from @enfa - I honestly think we're going to see a lot more of this happen with bigger servers, maybe because they can't keep up with the moderation queues. Growing pains 'n' all that.
