Two posts in one day! I spent several days drawing these faces to see if I could remember how to draw all the characters from my webcomic.
It's the first time in almost three months that I've felt like drawing something besides my comic. Though I guess I cheated a bit by drawing the characters from my comic.

Threads from the Blue Rock Tapestry | 377
A little late, but now online. Give it a read at:

First page of the new year (but not the first art of the new year since I drew it at the end of December).
The panels on page 41 of my comic where Gabor and Fairuza create the term "Flip Side" for her world.
Another formative Saturday Morning cartoon of my youth was Kidd Video. It's where I get the term "Flipside" that I use in my comic (the two worlds there being the Crossworld and the Flipside).
Here's my character Madeline as Glitter from Kidd Video.

Here are Madeline's parents, Amarante and Apollinaire. One in an old photo from a high school prom, and another as they are now.

This is Madeline Hypatia Acier, one of the characters from my comic 'Threads from the Blue Rock Tapestry'. In the comic she's currently traveling solo to see Alexandria the city of her namesake.

A little fan art of @GibsonTwist and @Rori 's upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Wuthering Heights using my Threads characters, Raheema and Niem.

A stylized drawing of Fairuza that I've always liked. I look at this and ask myself, "Why don't you draw in this style more often?"

Sketchbook Saturday! Assorted scribbles I've made. I'd like to say it was "during November", but I am very slow at art, so it was actually "between June and November".

A little #ThrowbackThursday #GlowUp art of Xenia Baudin, a character from my comic 'Threads from the Blue Rock Tapestry'. First from 2018, and second from 2020, both using the same palette.

One from 2017. Sixteen Madeline faces inspired by Winona Ryder's expressions at the 2017 SAG Awards. This is something I should revisit now that I have five more years of drawing experience under my belt.

Art I made 5+ years ago. Going through my art archive, I was surprised to see how much stuff I've made that long ago that I still really like.
I'll also boost a few older posts of art that is from that long ago.
This is vector art of one of my Threads characters, Xenia. Back in the day I worked almost exclusively in vector because I liked the meticulous control it gave me over the elements in the art.

An old drawing I made of Fairuza doing some tribal style belly dance.
I used to do belly dance back in the day. (The day being late 90s early 2000s.) Still absolutely love the clothing!

I don't really paint realism because I'm much more interested in a cartoon/animation style. But it doesn't hurt to at least know how to paint realism.
Here's a portrait I made tonight of my Threads comic character, Niem, inspired by the Fayum portraits, as well as another drawing in my typical animation style.

This painting I made in 2018 of my Threads character Siobhan playing her cherry red saz was the first one I made with the custom brush I'm still using today. Prior to this I was still using the simple round brush.
I was easing away from the solid color and razor sharp rendering of vector illustration and moving more fully toward the messiness of painting. But even now, I still tend to make that vector-ish look in my art.

My biggest foible with visual art has been my complete lack of understanding color theory. It took a long time for me to finally comprehend the relationship between color and light. But when it finally clicked ... whoa!
Six months after I painted Niem in armor, I started working on this (still unfinished) piece of my Threads characters enjoying a belly dance performance.

In 2010 I started pushing myself to try digital painting more often instead of always deferring to vector. But it wasn't until 2015 when I finally painted something I actually kind of like. And naturally it was a painting of a woman with a sword.

Greetings! My name is Astrid and I make art and comics. My interests include retrocomputers and hobby electronics, yoga and ballet, gothiness and witchery, and academic curiosity of world religions.
I draw an urban fantasy comic called 'Threads from the Blue Rock Tapestry' that I put on my website. I'm also working on my first graphic novel pitch of a story I began writing when I was still in high school.
