Shinoda is best known for a film he made a decade later, DOUBLE SUICIDE, which is based on Chikamatsu Monzaemon's joruri (puppet theatre) masterpiece from 250 years earlier. Monzaemon is as highly regarded in Japan as Shaw or Moliere is in the West.
