18 followers · 1304 posts · Server mastodon.xyzAccording to legend, in 1864 three local women visited a cemetery in #Boalsburg, #Pennsylvania to lay flowers on the graves of a father and son who had died in the #CivilWar. As the women left, they agreed to return the next year to remember not only their loved ones, but others. Their #tradition continued. And in 1868, May 30 was declared #DecorationDay across the country. In 1971 it became #MemorialDay.
