My heart is breaking for the people of Maui, especially Lahaina. Visited there with fam several years ago, and they were having a native #Boatbuilding demonstration right under the huge Banyan Tree in downtown.

That historic tree was apparently planted around 1873, and like so much of Lahaina, it is reported to be gone.

It did not survive…us.

Big day, (hopefully) planning to glue at the very least the aft half of the boat structure together. Its basically an egg-carton like construction. Two plywood pieces running fore & aft that slot into four frames.

If it goes well i'll chuck a picture up. I might even try to glue frame #1 to the stem piece (this slots into the aft section next, once i've built the mast step).

I just spent some hours with the ghosts of #woodworking #boatbuilding projects past, moving the lumber I've been storing for much too long. I had a little lapstrake boat on the molds when some eye problems shut down my shop work for 3-4 years, some 20 years ago. When that was resolved a lot of other things had changed.

The good news is that the itch is returning, I have space to work in, and now I'm actively figuring out how to make the time for myself.

I've been an sdf-eu user since 2007, arpa member since 2011, so that's 16 years already.

tl;dr - I'm not happy with the direction of the gaff jaws, and will probably start over there. The boom jaws came out better, but not without some self-inflicted issues. Lessons have been learned.

The centreboard dry fit is done, and only very minor adjustments needed, so celebrated by dry fitting all of the frames as a motivational reminder of where it’s heading. #boatbuilding
