“My Favorite Blonde” (1942) had some funny bits, but overall was a disappointment as a comedy. I think Bob Hope’s was the only funny role in the film and this was far from his best material. Neither Madeleine Carroll nor the cute penguin helped in the humor department.

Gale Sondergaard and George Zucco could have been very amusing as the evil foils, but were given little to do.

This 1954 comedy sketch includes some of the earliest "transsexual jokes" in my video collection (though there were earlier ones on radio). They're indirect references, since TV censors would not have allowed anything more specific.

"Denmark jokes," often mocking in tone, were common in US comedy for about 20 years starting in 1952, after news of Christine Jorgensen's surgery in Denmark first made headlines.

In this clip, note how Jack Benny loses concentration when guest star Bob Hope starts ad-libbing new lines. The skit, "The Road to Nairobi," is a spoof of the "Road to..." films that Bob Hope costarred in with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour.
