Depot van #boijmans, zéér de moeite waard. Wat een geweldige vondst om opslag en expositie te combineren! En mooi uitzicht over Rotjeknor vanaf het dakterras.

Colourful transparency can be found in this work by Alfred Sisley. He painted the conflux of the Loing and Seine in wispy blues and whites, indicating the reflection of light on water with thin streaks. As a pure Impressionist, Sisley frequently painted landscapes 'en plein air'. The people in his paintings are often subordinated to the landscape, no more than a few dabs of colour.

One of our security coordinators chose Oscar Kokoschka's The Mandrill (1926). The painting is currently on long-term loan at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. In honour of their reopening, eight Boijmans pieces are on show at our southern neighbours on the Schelde.

Many artists use a mirror when making a self-portrait. It is evident from the frontal presentation that Charley Toorop did so for this painting. In the background we see her son Edgar Fernhout and a bronze head of her father, Jan Toorop, made by John Rädecker. She is reflected in the generation before and after her, and wields her brush with the precision of a surgeon's scalpel.

'Bouw Museum Boymans' - first screening during IFFR 2023

Recently, the 16mm reels by George L. Theijssen (1890-1948) documenting the construction of the current museum building were scanned frame by frame. This unique document of a piece of Rotterdam history can be seen on the big screen for the first time.

Happy new mastoyear! The sculpture that you see here depicts Eve after the Fall. This life size plaster cast was donated to the museum following an Auguste Rodin exhibition in Rotterdam in 1899. It was the first Rodin in a Dutch collection. As a result of the donation Rodin even visited the museum.
