I'm hoping #SciComm folks can help spread the word, but the fact that scientists keep finding out this info about #SickleCell means we're getting closer to a cure that doesn't have to be #bonemarrowtransplant. Especially because immunosuppressive drugs can be hard on the body, and from what I hear, don't taste / feel the best.

My son, in preparation for a possible #BoneMarrowTransplant (see profile) has an appointment - such an embarrassing appointment - at the #FertilityClinic today.
Because a side effect of his (hopefully life saving) treatment could be infertility.
And that's nothing an 18 year old really wants to think about, right?

This weekend I did find out my bone marrow transplant donor is not American. The person who donated bone marrow for my graft is European. I have the option of sending them a postcard.

(I cannot learn their address, they cannot learn mine; these are the bone marrow donation rules)

I think I might send them a postcard from my wife and I to say thanks.
