Sweet come the misty morning in September
Among the dewy paths 'tis sweet to stray
Greensward or stubbles as I well remember
I have done & the mist it curleth grey

Combining some hobbies together, I decided to see if I could DIY myself a #eurorack case out of #bookbinding supplies. Bookbinding and box-making are closely related, after all.
I think it came out pretty great!
It’s 40HP and has a TipTop Z-Rails assembly in it. It's covered in bookcloth and a layer of paper in the bottom.
Checking in on the marigold paste papers I made yesterday. They’ve dried with a beautiful yellow, like best butter. I also tried just saturating some pages with the marigold & water without paste and it’s made some really vibrant shades in the areas where it was thickest. I’m going to give them a second coat to try to get a deep shade all over.

Much more concentrated colour than boiling. Marigold so far has deepened as it’s dried so I can’t wait to see what colour this will turn out. I was going to do a pattern but I like the brush marks #Bookbinding #pastePapers #Endpapers #NaturalInk

I’ve been experimenting with creating my own decorative endpapers for bookbinding using natural ink made from local plants. This is my favourite so far. It’s all viburnum opulus berries. The pink is the ink after boiling with water. I added a little lemon juice to raise the acidity after discovering it turns blue where it reacts with the acid-free paper as I wanted to preserve some of the vibrant pink, the burnt orange is mixed with a little bicarb of soda.
The Tufte-Latex package has the output and the source code. I still couldn't use it though since I was having problems controlling the hyphenation. BUT the documentation was so excellently done that I could easily recreate all the styles in Scribus. I might need to adjust the size of some styles a bit if I decide to through with my I plan to use the size the Penguin Little Clothbound Classics dimensions (4.5"x6.5").

@MeganeHaven It is not 4000 words. More like close to 40,000. 😂
But feel free to bind my #ghostbusters #fanfic for your own personal collection. (I'm still working on the typesetting since I plan to turn it into a hardbound for my personal library as well.)

My opinion on rebinding paperback books into hardbounds is that it makes no sense since paperbacks are perfect bound.
Then I decided to check how our local school/university bookbinders do it. It's still technically perfect bound, but they staple or sew the pages together as well. It's an interesting method that I would most likely do on really thick tomes (like The Art of Computer Programming) or cheap paperbacks.
Yes. I do have a drill. 😂
A little personal history and a short rundown on some of the steps of hand-binding a book. #Bookbinding

Reading "Hand Bookbinding" by Aldren Watson and now thinking I should switch to wheat flour paste from Pvc glue.
Also, reminded that I'm out of beeswax. What is a good alternative to beeswax that I can use to wax my thread?
As a result, lo, a recent bookbinding project... #DogsOfMastodon #bookbinding
More book pictures but this time it's their outsides not their insides.
A few lovely gold-blocked publishers' cloth bookbindings of the 19th and early 20th centuries. No known copyright. Full Album

Laying out books is my least favorite part of #BookBinding and since it’s also the first step it’s often a bottleneck. But somehow today I was in the mood, so I now have 5 books ready for printing (and paper cut to size for 2 of them).
Happy Friday! Here's an endband to end the week!

Researching on the Penguin clothbound classics and the new little clothbound classics to find out book sizes and what cloth they use for it. I also learned how to make my own book cloth. They're using something linen-like. I can just buy a yard or two of the cloth I plan to use for my book series and turn that into book cloth.

Surprised at the book binding YTs talking about gluing without mentioning paper has a direction (can't find the English word) ↕️ or ↔️ and you need to glue it on the side of the direction. Otherwise you get bumpy books. 📚
I haven't been doing #bookbinding as often as I'd like to. I'd also might as well learn to typeset with #scribus. So I thought maybe I can pick something from Project Gutenberg and pick a book.
Any suggestions on what book I should start with? I like monsters, the supernatural, the occult, the paranormal, and a lot of mythology. Fantasy and science fiction. The likes of frankenstein and the Odyssey. Any #suggestions?

Per Rev. Ouvry in this Leighton Buzzard Observer news item 👀 “When Mr Ouvry came to Wing in 1850, he found [the Churchwardens accounts 1527-1725] without its covers and in a very dilapidated condition in an old chest in the church. He asked the churchwardens to have it restored, and they sent it to the British Museum bookbinder, who refixed the covers, smoothed, repaired, and [??] the leaves, and made it the sound good volume which it now appears”. #OnePlaceStudies #bookbinding
@dansmernicki There are definitely some people using the #museums #baking #cycling and #bookbinding hashtags.
