As part of our programme we are hosting a book identification challenge for our panelists. We want you to fill out the form and give us a book title, author, and 6-25 words to describe it! Try not to be so obscure that no one will get it - we don't want to entirely discourage our panellists. And make it a science fiction, fantasy or horror book, please!

People on the Spine | #bookstack #bookchallenge #booktag #SundayStack
Yes it's another of those fab challenges I've been set by Joanna over on Instagram. In this one, I was challenged to find books which have people on the spine so here's a selection I found. You can see Joanna's choices here: Over The Rainbow Blog The First Time I Saw You by Emma Cooper The Monogram Murders by Sophie Hannah…

Spell the Month in books challenge | SEPTEMBER | #spellthemonth #bookchallenge #booktag
I haven't done this challenge for a couple of months and this month, I'm not doing it with a book stack but with a collage of books which spell out the month. I've had to include a few titles with THE at the beginning this time and it was a big challenge to find three books with an E somewhere significant in the title!

Tomorrow starts COYER Chapter 3!! Back to the original rules of all being cheap ebooks/audiobooks, and no library books count! I had to set my goal a little lower, b/c I know I love a good library book here and there...

Book Challenge: Love in the title 💗 | #booktag #bookchallenge #bookstack
Joanna tagged me on Instagram way back at the beginning of the month to take part in a challenge to find books with love in the title. You can see her post here: JojosOverTheRainbowBlog. It's festival month here in Edinburgh so I've been quite busy and only got around to it now. I read loads of romantic fiction so thought it would be easy but actually, it seems very few romance novels have…

Day 2: A book by your favourite female author.
Well, this is impossible. But the female author I currently buy all of is VE Schawb. And Anne Leckie. And NK Jemsin. Too many options. Ah, so many lovely books.

Day 1: The first book you remember owning.
Milly Molly Mandy. She has a striped dress. I remember nothing more.

Book #2 of 23 for 2023 is complete ✅✅
This one is new (published last year) from one of my favorite authors. If you enjoy WWII historical fiction, set in England, I recommend this book. I hadn't read it yet, and was ecstatic when my local library had it ❤️ #books #bookchallenge #historicalfiction #library #booknerd #reader #bookrecommendation #ReadingList #2023reading

#bookchallenge Each day for 7 days I'll post the cover of a book I love...no explanations, no reviews. Day 7:
I started a Graphic Novel Reading Challenge called “I am going Graphic “ on Storygraph and Instagram and share it here as well in case some of you are interested.
I will post monthly bingo with 8 prompts (the free space, meaning you can read the graphic novel you want).
The goal ? Have fun , and maybe step outside your comfort zone and discover new unexpected books.

And, with Chapter, we finish school... That's the extent of Harry Potter... It really is an odd book to call out as a precursor but also quite appropriate. Ged may have learnt his lessons and some wisdom, but he is still new, still naïve...
Oh, but he may not be quite so prideful now... I love the chance ntrast between Ged when he arrives and Ged as he graduates - can you imagine early Ged happily asking Master Doorkeeper for help?

And we arrive at the School on Roke. This series is often pointed to as a precursor to Those Potter Books citing the school for wizards as a big part, but actually... We're not getting much... We have the antagonist - Jasper (Draco) - a friend who is more in the wizarding world than Ged is - Vetch (Ron?)... We have a grand hall with a magic table... We have a series of lessons to learn including...

Hi Shop can anyone help me? I've promised myself that I would join one of the #BookChallenge, the one about broadening your #readings, making your reading more #inclusive, including books from indigenous writers etc. Only issue now is I lost the link. Can someone point me too it.

Again, transformation magic - how much stronger it seems to be here than when discussed later. Although we do get hints at it with the meals which left them hungry
#reading #bookchallenge #earthsea
Wait, what is Frodo Baggins doing in Earthsea… 8-)
Another story with transformation magic being used.
A story where the “hero” doesn’t win…
But here we set up more of the magic - the true name is the true thing. In Words of Unbinding the wizard “spoke a word” to create the little light - now we understand something, not much, but something, of what that word could be.

Will be interesting to go back when we have the conversation about transformation in Ged’s education at Roke. Death and the afterlife are, of course, a major part of the final resolution. I think there are also some similarities with the ending of Cob’s story (but it’s been a while since I read so..?)
A tale here of transformation, sacrifice and patience.
Transformation - seems close to those stories of battles of transformation in legends - I am the mist, well, I am the hot desert air…
Sacrifice - we see here our first taste of what awaits following death in Earthsea.
Patience - he now waits there to keep an eye of Voll’s darkness to ensure the lands of the living are not disturbed…
