Haul from the Folio Sample Sale yesterday. Had to queue up for a while and wasn't in the first batch let in despite being there 90 mins before open! Fun conversations while waiting though and some great deals.

This Saturday, while visiting with my in-laws in Hadley, MA, we got to spend some time at Grey Matter Books. It's one of those used bookstore archetypes that I love: a shop that appears fairly small at first but which expands shelf to shelf, room to room, and every room holds new treasures.

I ended up getting Arrival by Chiang, an annotated guide to fairy tales, and a noir mystery collection.

The Horror Section was indicated by this clever sign.

#Today was pretty good, apart from well, chronic pain disturbing me a bit. It wasn't much, just a level 3 so I'll live.

1. I taught Hamlet! Today! It was a fun class, and I enjoyed the session greatly. Days like today remind me of why I worked/fought so hard not just to be a lit scholar but a lit educator.
2. Yes, another #bookhaul arrived! I wasn't going to get another stack of books until later in June because you know, it's not even burfday month YET. But my favourite indie bookseller had a special time-limited coupon so (excuse given, purchase was made) squee! You know what's better than books? MORE BOOKS!
3. Scored the Linda McCartney pies for #MeatlessWednesday in the hospital tomorrow. I'm bringing my own victuals! More of the miso mushroom pasta, and 1 pie since it'll be a long wait at the spine clinic and I am likely to get hangry.

The unboxing of delectable book goodies has happened! This package came from my favourite indie bookstore, with a note from my favourite bookseller. They get me so used to these notes, I'd be really sad if there wasn't any note. 😹

Anyway, that made me decide that I WAS going to give them 5 starter copies of Watermyth once it's published so they can attempt to sell it. If it becomes consignment, I'll just take them back.

1. The leak in this week's plumbing nightmare and my broken window latch fixed by condo technician bro. I'm so relieved!

2. My delayed delivery from the 🍎 store arrived today, to protect the back of my iPhone 13. I really should have got it last year but this phone was purchased online from my hospital bed last July when my iPhone 7 died and a colleague kindly collected it for me and well, you (some of you at least) know how the rest of that recovery process went.

3. More books arrived! Squee! Been too busy to open the parcel, though. Going to do that after this.

And my fav find of the bunch: The Secular City Debate - a collection of responses (circa 1966) to Harvey Cox's Secular City, with a "vigorous rejoinder" from Cox himself. I've thumbed through it before for research but not very closely.

McBride's "Miracle..." is the only one of his I haven't read, I think. Super excited to dive into that one.

Ok, maybe the sale itself was disappointing but I still made out pretty well!

Yesterday was spent exploring one of the largest bookstores in Taipei (as far as I know). I also went to Taipei 101, but well, books seem more important.

I started a tradition last year of buying books from the countries I travel to (that are from or related to the country somehow) and this is my #BookHaul for this particular trip.

I also bought two Korean books not pictured though. Oops.

Had the day off from work today, so of course I went to the bookstore to add to my collection!
