A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and in labor with the pangs of childbirth.
Then a second sign appeared in the sky: a great, red dragon. With his tail, he swept down a third of the stars of the cosmos, hurling them to Earth. The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, waiting to devour the child as soon as it was born. But when she gave birth, the child was swept up to God. The woman fled to the desert, to a place prepared for her by God, where she would receive care for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
