For someone who struggles with hearing other people's tone in real life, I find it easier to read a character's tone of voice in text (at least when it comes to )

One thing that causes me to a book is when a character's tone doesn't match their stated age. I see this a lot in books (e.g. A 12 year old sounding like a high school senior or a college student.)

Is there any nitpicks that causes y'all to DNF a book?

@bookstodon I just finished Parable of the Sower and had to set it aside for awhile as the beginning was so bleak and dark. Is Parable of the Talents the same or is it more hopeful?
