It's almost my birthday :blobcatcheer: and I plan to ask for another book or book series as my present :catsip: :catsip: :catsip: I just think I deserve it lol

I am not sure which book I'd ask for though. Last year (before the total collapse of it all), I asked for the Harry Potter series. I had been dying to get the physical copies of them since I became a fan back in highschool. :blobcathug: :blobcathug: :blobcathug: But since the issue with 𝘚𝘩𝘦-𝘞𝘩𝘰-𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘕𝘰𝘵-𝘉𝘦-𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥, it became stale and I practically had the longest reading slump in my entire life so far.

I wish that whatever book or book series I pick relieves me from my slump. Then I'll finally rejoin reading spaces and (maybe) even join in ʙᴏᴏᴋᴛᴏᴅᴏɴ :blobcatcoffee: :blobcatcoffee: :blobcatcoffee:

New review posted! A Matcha Made In Hell is a spicy m/m college romance with a former high school bully trying to atone for his past, a charming tea purveyor who turns the tables on his former tormenter, and the unexpected chemistry between them.

What are you currently reading? I'm going between No Life for a Lady by Hannah Dolby on my Kindle and All Good Things by Amanda Prowse as a physical copy. What have you finished reading? I recently finished both Steeple Chasing by Peter Ross which was brilliant (review here) and Vulcana which I can't say anything about yet as it's for my book group!

This morning - and I have been very lucky in the past few days to be able to read so much - I am being entertained by Ashes of the Sun by Django Wexler, book one in the Burningblade and Silvereye series!
I have hyped the series quite a bit for myself (I also have a post on why the series is on my TBR; feel free to check it on my blog!) and so far I am enjoying what I am experiencing!

What are you or currently enjoying?

And as a quick follow-up from my post about The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty: (i) I devoured the book, a great page turner and I did not even realize this was actually happening; (ii) great world building, layered, interesting, Middle Eastern inspired, wonderfully executed including magic (although it feels similar to her other series, the Daevabad trilogy); (iii) Amina is a powerhouse!

Last night I finished The scarab path (book 5 in the shadows of the apt) by Adrian Tchaikovsky and loved it, again easy 5 stars! And I found myself immediately picking up The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty and it is a fabulous story of an independent woman and a legendary pirate!

This is the exciting, compelling, and totally enjoyable sci-fi series I've been missing since I was an adolescent ripping through Dune, Harry Potter, and Ender's Game. (ugh, what a problematic list!)

Necromancers in space? Queer characters with biting and ridiculous sarcasm? World building that unfolds in amazing twists? Pulse-pounding endings? Very yes. Very recommend.

Just finished the second book in Tamsyn Muir's Locked Tomb series. It's terrific.

The twists pulled off in the second book still feel fresh, surprising, and yet totally connected with the material in the first. I'm hugely impressed with the plotting.

I wanted to work on a series of posts that focus on gender (I know it is only one aspect of diversity but I wanted to start somewhere), making it a recurring post on the blog!

If you are looking for inspiration for wonderful women who write fantasy, I've got you covered (and I have many more to come); and feel free to suggest other authors to read!

Joe Abercrombie calls himself (on X/Twitter) lord grimdark and that title is definitely deserved! A little hatred starts his second trilogy (and his seven book) in the First Law world, called Age of Madness.
Great world building (improved from before with a few magical skills), familiar and brutal yet fresh with new characters!

Have you read Abercrombie's The First Law books?

To the person who recommended me 'I Who Have Never Known Men' by Jacqueline Harpman a while ago, thank you so much. 🙏

I read the Dutch translation. I doubted I'd like the book the first 20 or 30 pages, but once I was in, I was IN. I kept reading for hours until the end. My favorite piece of literature so far this year. I'm currently rereading it in French because I can't stop thinking about it.

If anyone has read this book, please recommend me any book that has made you feel the same way or has reminded you of this one in any way. It could be the same themes, or just the same vibes.

If you're planning on reading I Who Have Never Known Men: do it. If you can start a book without reading CW's, try to go into it blindly (but be aware that it's a very dark book). Even the synopses on some editions give away too much in my opinion. Trust the journey.

What are you currently reading? I'm reading two very different books just now and I'm listening to The Salt Path by Raynor Winn on the Libby app. Vulcana is the fictionalised life story of Kate Williams, the daughter of a Welsh Baptist Minister, who became famous as a strongwoman in the late 19th century. I've only read a few chapters but am finding it very intriguing.

@bookstodon I need please! I’m looking for low recommendations. Romance can be there but I want plenty of adventure & banter to go along with it. Nothing epic- magic should take a back seat and it’d be amazing if the main character did not have magic at all. Best if MC is not royal/deity/etc.

The closest thing I’ve read to this is Intisar Khanani’s The Dauntless Path series (which is amazing and I highly recommend). Anything else like it?

Top Ten Tuesday – 29th August 2023 | Water |

This week's topic: Water This week the topic is Water and we were allowed to interpret it in different ways. This could be book covers with water on them, books with bodies of water in them, book titles with bodies of water in them and so on. The books I have chosen are all have some kind of water in the title and most have water on the covers too.

Hello, my friends! Happy Monday! Do you like Goblin Market (see yesterday's posts to learn why you should). Do you like Fairy Bargains (tm)? Have you read Trip Galey's 'A Market of Dreams and Destiny'? No? Even after I raved about it back on 1July in a toot right here in your timeline? No worries--Let me tell you at greater length all about why you should, over on Nerds of a Feather.

One of my oldest friends, Marcie Bianco, who grew up across the street from me, has a book coming out in a couple of weeks. I hope you'll show her and her book some love and attention. I think there's going to be a lot of overlap between some of the work we've been doing with and in and Marcie's ideas.
