Both uplifting and depressing, as you’d expect. Well written and packed with interest and information. Highly recommended if you like this sort of thing.

#BooksOf2023 #18: The Happy Runner by Davis and Megan Roche. This was a great little book about being a happy runner. As someone who started running more recently, the book contained some good info that I hadn’t heard before.

And, read more or less in parallel with it, no. 32.
A nice easy going wander through some of the vertebrates and invertebrates we share the planet with. They certainly sound better than people for the most part.

31st of my #BooksReadIn2023 - some old school history. Easy reading but at least in places fairly erudite. Lots of the “essays” are interesting rambles that were supposed to be book reviews: there are now some more books on my overlong list of things to read one day.

An exploration/explanation of the (dis)function of international, especially US, politics and relations, intended I think to illuminate the post 11th of September world it was written in. All seems applicable still today but frankly a bit beyond me/hard to grasp. Will have to reread some time.

29th of my #BooksOf2023 - it has only taken ?22? years to hit it in the right mood to go all the way through.
Interesting if apparently not always totally accurate, as you might expect from such an account. The representative approaches of the soviets and their role/understanding as a form of democracy are thought provoking.

A fairly quick and easy read; enjoyable, but not quite as good as Rebirding.

27th of my #BooksOf2023 - a volume of the “Jeeves ‘n’ Chums” box sets that does not feature Jeeves.

An interesting memoir from my local #Library, stirring up memories and emotions while giving insights into what is involved in wildlife filmography. Now I just have to find the film he was making!

A mixture of interesting and irritating. To be honest if you haven’t read it, I wouldn’t bother.

The history, fascinating; the present and future, terrifying.
Not a breach of my non-book-buying resolution, but a loan that again impedes my progress in reducing the to-read pile!

A nice balance of idealism and pragmatism in seeking to manage land for nature while also operating as a farm.
Back to the hard stuff now as my holiday is over (and my lunch break is about to be too!), I’ll have to restrain myself from borrowing more when I return this to the #library

When this holiday is over I’ll get back to my own books that I’m supposed to be powering through before I’m allowing myself to buy more rather than going for easy things picked up at the #Library.
Though this one while readable wasn’t easy in all senses, I found it quite an emotional read.

If the title prompts you to ask “Why not?”, get a copy (mine was from the #Library) and read it.

Eighteenth of my #BooksOf2023 Something fun and easy, a book that I enjoyed reading and absolutely blasted between the more serious books I have on the go that I want to read but maybe enjoy less or just find harder work.
And yes, it is another #LibraryBook: it turns out most of my unread books-that-I-own are in the harder to read camp!

Seventeenth of my #BooksOf2023, again from the #library… I’m never going to get the owned heap down at this rate! Actually before this I tried to read A Scots Quair - it is now looking for a new home as the writing is fell awful.
Anyway, this was interesting. Good analysis of how “meritocracy” is actually quite shitty, less good at proposing remedies (or maybe I was getting tired/bored by then).
