For SFF fans: Africa Risen (Sheree Reneé Thomas), an anthology of spec fic by Black authors. The stories take inspiration from African mythology and history to build out the worlds, and it’s a brilliant, sorely underrated combo. 32 stories and let me tell you, not one miss. (If I *had* to pick a favorite, I'd probably say "A Dream of Electric Mothers" (Wole Talabi)... but it would be a damn close contest.)

"The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read" ini self explanatory yaa.. kayak ngebikin si calon pembaca kudu banget baca ini kalau mau jadi orang tua.

Saya skeptis, apaan dah buku kok gitu banget bikin judul?? Setelah baca sampai halaman 34, lalu teryakinkan sih. Beneran deh buat temen-temen yang baru akan menikah atau akan punya buah hati memang perlu banget tahu isi buku ini.

Key point yang saya dapat dari baca ini sejauh ini adalah: rupanya respon kita membesarkan anak itu kuat sekali dibentuk dari pengalaman masa kecil bagaimana orang tua kita dulu merespon kita.

Kalau beliau dulu sering membentak kita karena menumpahkan minuman, sampai gelas pecah.. maka kemungkinan kita akan meluapkan respon yang sama apabila anak kita menumpahkan gelas sampai gelasnya juga pecah.

Di sini kita menjadi sangat tidak rasional, namun sangat emosional dan secara tidak sadar malah terhubung ke masa lalu.

Lalu bagaimana cara memutus rantai pengasuhan ini? Lebih lanjut baca aja sendiri yaa 😁

What was the best book you read this year?

I have been tracking total books read all pandemic. Last year, in December, I wanted to hit a specific number (80) for the year, so I read several shorter books to boost my numbers. Felt good to hit a goal but silly not to read what I wanted.

This year I won't have read as many books (55-60?), but I will have read several longer series that I put off because I wanted to hit a certain arbitrary number. Quality and quantity!
