Yesterday I got author copies of my most recent book, a collection of short stories titled Where Rivers Go To Die. They look lovely and the red tones make me want to change my favourite colour from blue to red. You can find yourself a copy of this book on online stores.

These are stories I've written over twenty years, since the earliest I first wrote circa 2003-4

I had created a thread on Twitter a while ago about on , but given how Twitter has been behaving over the past few months, I thought it best to archive it at another place too. You can see the full list of books or articles on Bangalore that I have enjoyed at bharathpalavalli.com/booksonba. In case you are curious about the Twitter thread, it is currently available at twitter.com/bharathmp/status/1.

The truth cannot be erased, and the walls behind which it is hidden are brittle and fractured, ready to tumble down and smother its keepers at any time.

Books do not burn.

Last book of 2022 was @IcySedgwick 's The Necromancer's Apprentice and after that cliffhanger on a simple novella, I'm already downloading the sequel...

My reading challenge for 2023 - my first and truly punishing challenge but if I stay focused, and get your support, I might just make it.

I'll note which books I read or reread and where appropriate finish! At the time. 😂

I love how everyone collectively remembers at this time of year. I was hoping to reread , but time is getting away from me, and the Great Winglebury Duel came out of the jar, so here we are. is a masterpiece of mistaken identity and confusion, very much in the spirit of pantomime and vaudeville. The Steam Excursion is my least favourite of the two; it's quite funny in places, but it didn't really grab my attention.

Recommended: Clare Clark's debut novel 'The Great Stink' (but maybe for after the holidays ;-) A Washington Post Book of the Year

Unsavory but completely absorbing, Clare Clark's debut novel is set in a Victorian era sewer: crumbling, rat-infested, & laden with cholera.

Characters range from human and animal scavengers to the reformers promoting public hygiene after an 1858 Act of Parliament called for rebuilding of the sewer system.

A small, new, and bookish tattoo. Ten imaginary house points to anyone who can guess the book?

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I really loved this book. Both Claudia and James are wonderfully annoying and confident, and the idea of running away to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art is inspired. Who wouldn't want to live in a museum? In many ways Mrs. Basil E. is more childish than the children, certainly more mischievous. I love how her involvement is revealed at the end, and how the plot comes together.

The Green Man Of Eshwood Hall is slow and timeless, rather like a walk in the woods. It has everything an old-fashioned adventure should have: a big old house, a child who is often left alone, ghosts, and of course the Green Man. In this respect, the story feels like a classic folk tale, but it's not a story for children.

Harper Lee's To Kill A Mocking Bird had such an impact on me in my childhood; it remains my favourite book. But I couldn't get through Go Set A Watchman. The few pages I read reeked of racism and my heart sank.

The Murderbot diaries are truly incredible

They really make a good gift 🎁 idea for yourself or for others

Even folks who are usually non-readers can get into these short, punchy stories
