Reading a book on history of communism, while sipping expensive coffee in Starbucks. So typical of me haha

I don't know much about Jewish history, and this seems interesting enough for me. Main thesis is that the development of Judaism created the need for increased literacy, which in turn placed the Jews at an advantage in pursuing economic endeavors.

Indoor dining is allowed again, but limited at 10% capacity only. Al fresco is still encouraged.
Just finished reading The Spy Who Came In from the Cold, by John le Carré.
Much of it is slow-paced conversations. But the last few chapters were really good. And the finale was so exciting, I was literally at the edge of my seat haha.
Overall, it's a really good read. I liked it a lot.

Finished the book Lost in Thought, by Zena Hitz.
Main thesis is supposed to be promoting knowledge for its own sake. But her arguments and conclusions are way too vague. I got lost in whatever she's trying to say, because she never clearly pointed it out.
Well, she did mention Mother Mary as the special patron for the book. Which is nice, since my biggest takeaway from this book is that the Mother Mary is a studious reader.

I've already read 30+ books this year, compared with less than 20 last year. And that's for the ones I actually finished - I did drop a few that I just didn't feel like finishing anymore.
I'm likely to finish 2-3 more by yearend.
I got to read lots this year due to abundant free time during lockdowns, and the fact that Kindle made reading and buying books much easier.
I'll talk about some of the books I liked most soon.
New book! A look at the theology of the Eucharist in the Medieval Period, and the history and development of the Feast of Corpus Christi.
As a history enthusiast, I will still prefer looking at Catholic history from a more academic lens.

Finished reading The Alice Network, by Kate Quinn. It's really good, though at times too dark and heavy for me. At least it had a happy ending.
I prefer my next reads to be much lighter emotionally.

They say social media distracts you from enjoying a good book.
Right now, for me, it is the opposite: it's the good book that distracts me from social media.
It's a nice change of pace from my usual dose of history and - recently my new preferred genres - Catholic-related books. The novel can get a bit dark at times, and likely will, since it's set in wartime. But so far it's an exciting read, and the characters are likable.

Nearly all of my usual coffee shop places have already reopened, as more restrictions are being loosened and lifted. This place is excellent for abundance of natural light, though my mobile internet gets a bit more spotty especially in the afternoon.
Nonetheless, I love reading in here because the natural light is just more refreshing.
