McDonald is just so damned good at writing love-letters to *places* that then them into characters in their own right. The first third of *Hopeland* treats London that way, bringing it to gritty life in the manner of Michael de Larrabeiti's classic #Borribles trilogy:

It was an early Urban Fantasy novel and an inspiration behind the New Weird. It made a hike across run-down 1970s London sound like an epic quest through the Misty Mountains
I was wondering what ttrpg system would suit running a Borrible campaign. I think it would need some way of encouraging storytelling, & the use of proverbs to define yourself
