Nicknamed “the Sphinx”, the hardy patch of snow is found on #Braeriach (Scotland’s third-highest mountain at 1,296m) near #Aviemore in the #Cairngorms. Before 2000 it had melted only three times in the last 150 years.

A Bluebird day with perfect Alpine conditions out on the #Cairngorms today. Up on the high tops at #Munro height with great views of #CairnToul, #AngelsPeak #Braeriach, and even #Lochnagar in the distance but holy guacamole I had to put in some graft; climbing through thigh deep snow zaps every ounce of energy and you can forget about being able to see/follow any paths!
Probably best that my other half gave today a miss as she’d not have thanked me for dragging her through that depth of snow ❄️🥾🏔️
