Germans split as last three nuclear power stations go off grid

On one side of Berlin's on Saturday, there was partying: anti-atomic activists celebrated victory in a battle that had lasted 60 years.
On the other side of the Gate, there were protests, as demonstrators marched against the closure of 's three remaining stations.

By midnight on Saturday, Isar 2, Emsland and Neckarwestheim 2 had all gone offline.

In 1989, Germany was reunited when the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin was opened to signify the end of the separation between East and West Germany. The gate, which had been shut off from both East and West Germans since 1961, was reopened when on 22 December 1989 when West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and East German Prime Minister Hans Modrow interacted through the gate. It was restored in 2000 and officially re-opened in 2002.
