Amazing that #bravermann & #patel don't recognize their policies as being those of the #nationalfront. Their parents must surely see it?

#Bravermann and #Sunak and their #MigrationBill
"It's essentially a ban on asylum. It basically extinguishes the right to seek asylum in the UK for people arriving irregularly and that's a clear breach of the Refugee Convention"
Vicky Tennant - UN Refugee Agency
#bravermann #Sunak #migrationbill
Under the 1998 HRA, which enshrines the ECHR into UK law, a minister presenting a bill must make a statement confirming that the bill doesn't break human rights law. However, #Bravermann has made a #Section19B statement, under which the minister in charge of the bill [herself] states they are “unable to make a statement of compatibility” but that the “G'ment nevertheless wishes the House to proceed with the Bill”
good trick 🙄

#Bravermann says in the HofC
"This is where The Left go wrong they naively believe that everyone on a boat is always fleeing persecution or war or conflict. The reality is many are fit and young ... and are economic migrants"
She is being duplicitous here. The reality is ....
Taking into account appeals, 59% of asylum applications submitted in 2017 to 2019 inclusive are estimated to have received a grant of asylum-related protection.
#Bravermann says in the HofC
"We have welcomed almost 500,000 people to the UK who are fleeing persecution"
The government's own statistics put this value at ...
"18% of immigration was accounted for by asylum seekers and refugees (around 190,000 individuals in total)"
Try as I might, I cannot find this 500,000 value anywhere.

In the HoFC today #Bravermann persistently returns to section 3 of the HRA
The use of the word “possible” in section 3 clearly indicates that Parliament envisaged when it was written that not all legislation would be capable of being interpreted in a Convention-compliant manner.
She is literally saying she knows her #ImmigrationBill will not be compliant but nevertheless she believes it to be legal.
Let us see ...
Even though it was alluded to previously, #Bravermann has made no reference to expanding legal routes.
It's as if she wants to keep the main thing the main thing.
😞
The Section 19 system (a and b) was designed to alleviate a number of the problems identified within the HRA, including transferring the obligation to make statements of compatibility to the Attorney-General and providing education and training on human rights issues to parliamentarians.
#Bravermann has - quite wickedly - used it for other purposes.

This is what she meant by pushing boundaries!
#Bravermann is in the HofC saying to the illegal immigrants, "if you arrive here you will be detained and swiftly removed back to your country. or on to a third safe country like Rwanda."
The UK only has #immigration #deporation agreements with:
Nigeria, Serbia, Pakistan, India, Albania, and Rwanda.
So where does #Bravermann think we are going to send all of her 'illegals' back to?
She then goes on to say this will happen without bail or judicial review within 28 days!
#bravermann #immigration #deporation
#Bravermann in the HofC talking about her #ImmigrationBill says, "We have not sat on our hands and since this Prime Minister [Sunak] has taken over we have signed new deals with France"
On 14th November 2022, the UK signed a deal spending £62.2 million with France for their assistance with our immigration control.
Meanwhile, 40,000 asylum seekers crossed The Channel.
You can't, "push the boundaries of international law."
You either comply with international law or you break it. There's no grey area.

“It feels like they aren’t interested in learning lessons. So many reports and recommendations have been published but so much of it has not been followed through”is a quote that could be rolled out at the end of any and every report on the abject failings of the Home Office.
