The 120 black and white photographs in the book mainly cover the Brecon to Newport railway line when it was operated by the Great Western and later British Railways.

Along with the images, each location is placed in context using contemporary OS maps and informative annotations.

A portrait of the scenic Brecon to Merthyr Railway which closed to passengers way back in 1962.

The book includes an interesting gradient profile of the line which fully reveals the challenging nature of the route! The driver and firemen earned their wages on this one!

While there are more detailed (and expensive!) volumes available to buy, this compact book gives a good flavour of the Brecon to Newport line.

A good range of pictures include some early Brecon & Merthyr tank locomotives along with those from the present narrow-gauge line from Pant.

A welcome work on a less well known line with much to interest railway as well as local history enthusiasts.

Includes Ordnance Survey maps and selected passenger timetables.

Just talking to my father about New Years Day & he remembers New Year's Gifting in Brecon, Wales.

They would go to the various shops that the family dealt with during the year & sing a rhyme (which he can't recall) and the shopkeepers would give them a sweet. This was during the war - rationing meant there were almost no sweets, so this stands out in this memory.

The second volume of Hodge & Caston’s profile of the Brecon and Merthyr Railway!

This part covers the southern part of the northern section (if you see what I mean!)

Looking across the Brecons early one summer morning. Bonus points for spotting the sheep atop the ridge.

Happy

When I had my DNA analyzed, I discovered the largest part of my genetic heritage is from , 40% of me.

I now know most of where my ancestors came from.

There are Swedish immigrants to the US in the 19th century. People from , near . settlers, mostly from the south and east.

Ham, my last name, is the name of a tiny village on the north coast of Scotland, but I know nothing about the Ham lineage. Are there Hams in Scotland still?
