Ein Kapitel in Belgiens Kolonialgeschichte in Afrika sind die sogenannten "Mischlinge" - Kinder, die zumeist einen weißen Vater aus #Belgien oder Europa und eine "schwarze" Mutter aus den Kolonialgebieten in #Afrika hatten oder auch noch haben. Bei der Geburt wurden diese Kinder von ihren europäischen Vätern meist nicht anerkannt.

I'm getting back into reading my books in Braille. In doing so, I'm starting to download more BRF files instead of just DAISY (cause that's all the EReader/Chemelion can do). My reason? Formatting. Headings actually in the center of the line. Bold and italic. Paragraphs indented. I know, I have to search for a page marker line thing to find the start of the actual book, but my goodness sometimes beauty is worth it. With Daisy and all other files, the software just barfs out plain text, doesn't format the Braille output at all cause that's not possible! Oh freaking no! The BrailleNote MPower and Apex were just a dream right? Right? They couldn't possible do all that fansy formatting stuff!

Of all the movements I’d like to see gain steam, a movement toward a cordial political discourse is at the top of my list. I try not to question a person’s morals or motivations. I question policy positions. One side believes in boot-straps, the other safety-nets. Some lean heavily on the government’s role, many chose religions and charities. The average person believes in compassion and prosperity. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all spent more time on common ground? #politics #brf

A ton of very smart people are hedging their bets and downplaying the impact federation and decentralization will have on social media and the Internet. Perhaps it’s driven by my job recently being eliminated, but I can’t help but wonder how these emerging trends might be capitalized upon. It feels a bit contradictory, to be thinking about capitalizing on something that’s at least partially born out of an anti-surveillance capitalist movement and currently shuns advertising based models. #brf
