#MilesDavis' #KindofBlue is influential--not just because it's the greatest jazz album of all time. Richard Williams 2009 book, The Blue Moment: Miles Davis's Kind of Blue and the Remaking of Modern Music, makes the case that Kind of Blue influenced everyone from #theVelvetUnderground to #BrianEno. No doubt the album led to the creation of a whole sub-genre, #ECM. After Kind of Blue, #BillEvans never again recorded with Miles Davis. But Evans was just getting started.

Yesterday evening I stopped into a new local record store's grand opening party, and was pretty surprised to see this in the bins after they'd already been open for six hours.

The condition is slightly rough, even by my low expectations, but there are no skips so far on side a. Mostly just excited to have found this in the wild.

Reflection, by Brian Eno, is somehow my safe place. When I listen to it, my mind gets focused and calm, pleasantly separated from the world. I think it is the apex of Eno’s lifelong ambient explorations, an unbeaten masterpiece. I listen to it attentively, and I notice its constant shifting and changing. It is like focusing on the surface of water. I leave it in the background, and it just comforts me and restores my balance, like the music of flowing water.

"'#Heroes'" is a song by the English musician #DavidBowie from his #12thStudioAlbumOfTheSameName. Co-written by Bowie and #BrianEno and co-produced by Bowie and #TonyVisconti, the song was recorded in mid-1977 at #HansaStudio2 in #WestBerlin. Using a G–D chord progression, the backing track was recorded fully before lyrics were written; Bowie and Eno added synthesiser #overdubs while #RobertFripp contributed guitar. To record the vocal.

Footage of original film from the Apollo moon journey was edited together; you may know the film from its reissue as "For All Mankind".

Brian Eno's music is calm, stately, clear and purposeful. "Weightless" centres the electric piano, its riff still sounds contemporary four decades on.
