Findings so far on the right angle drill accessory: #Brico: €50, #Clabots: €30 (backroom), small local hole-in-the-wall: €20. Looking for cheaper yet. Surely there must be more holes in the wall that would have this cheaply.

Con estas manitas y mi caladora me he fabricado mi primera cajonera para algunas herramientas.

Ingredientes: Pallets, sobrante de las tapetas de las nuevas puertas y mas horas que un reloj, aderezado al azar con tornillos y aceite de teca.

Voy a hacer algunas más y con suerte en esta habré cometido la mayoría de los errores posibles.

Estoy muy satisfecha, ahora a llenarla y etiquetarla.

Warning about #iDual lightbulbs & fixtures: the company seems to have sunk as idual.com times out & was “under construction” last March (http://web.archive.org/web/20230321084210/idual.com/). These devices are being sold by #brico as #finDeSeries (iow, no returns). I thought I was just buying old models but apparently there is no future w/this brand.

He hecho este precioso gramil con restos de un palet y una regla del todo a cien.

Plumbers in #Brussels apparently pay no attention to pricing. #Brico sells #loctite55 for €18.50/50m. #VanMarcke sells it for €26/160m. A hole-in-the-wall shop sells it for €12/160m. What a huge pricing variation. A plastic temporary plug goes for €8 @ #Djoser but 50¢ at a hole-in-the-wall shop.

Here’s a #crappyDesign. This pic is a screw that is standard for #plumbing in Europe for fastening pipes to walls. You can screw it in, but it cannot be unscrewed. How could they screw up something as simple as a pipe fastener? This is what every #Brico sells.

There is a screw maker that sensibly makes these screws to accept a star/torx tool, but only in M6 & M8 sizes, while the plumbing industry decided to standardize on a non-existent M7 diameter, forcing the use of non-removable screws.

Here’s a #crappyDesign submission. This pic is a screw that is standard for #plumbing in Europe for fastening pipes to walls. You can screw it in, but it cannot be unscrewed. How could they screw up something as simple as a pipe fastener? This is what every #Brico sells.

Can anyone tell me who in #Brussels sells #plumbing fittings for soldering? Soldering copper is a dying practice & losing ground to unreliable compression fittings. Small local DiY shops in my neighborhood have discontinued solder fittings. These are my findings so far:

- #Brico: still has them, but brass unions are >€15
- Induscabel: has some but have discontinued all but the most basic fittings
- Facq: has a few, but pricey
- Omnitec: none
- Brico Mat Kelly: none
- Brico Pala: none

#Belgian residents: do not buy a hot water tank in #Brussels. They come with sacrificial anode rods that deplete in ~3—5 yrs. When you try to replace one, #Brico does not sell them. They sell the boilers but not the consumables (why is that legal?). You have to go to a professional builder’s supply shop & order one for ½ the cost of a whole new tank. #CrappyDesign #RightToRepair

I just discovered the French #Starwax brand (which sells many household cleaning chemicals in #Brico in #Belgium) has a Cloudflare site. So I won’t be buying their products anymore.

#Brico has “Opération Recyclage” in attempt to encourage people to toss out perfectly usable tools & buy new, needlessly. It’s a disturbing use of the term /recycle/ because it falsely coerces consumers into thinking this is good for the environment. The most sustainable tools are the tools you already have. #greenWash

#Brico has a “20% off any item” sale so often (~2 weekends/month) that I’ve adapted to not shop there when the sale is off. Now they’ve announced 20% off for a whole month, but only to those who install their closed-source Playstore app. So I’ll likely not shop there that whole month. Am I the only one? I wonder if their marketing team calculates ppl in my boat.

Some brico.be shops are special. E.g. the #Brico in Ixelles has the biggest inventory of #FarTools because they have some special arrangement with that supplier. So Brico Ixelles has some tools that are not on the brico.be website, and also don't exist in the big Bricos like Brico Plan-it. What other Brico locations have supplies that are missing in the big Bricos?
